Gianna Englert
Associate Professor
Gianna Englert is Associate Professor in the Department of Government at The University of Texas at Austin. She previously held positions at Southern Methodist University and at the Hamilton School for Classical and Civic Education at the University of Florida. Her research is in the histories of liberalism and democracy, with particular attention to themes of citizenship, suffrage, elections, and political economy. Her published work has appeared in the American Journal of Political Science, History of Political Thought, Modern Intellectual History, Political Theory, Polity, The Review of Politics, and The Tocqueville Review, among other outlets. Her book, Democracy Tamed: French Liberalism and the Politics of Suffrage was published by Oxford University Press in 2024 and won the Inaugural Catherine and Michael Zuckert Book Award from the Association for the History of Political Thought.
