Academic Advising

ACADEMIC ADVISING

The School of Civic Leadership Academic Advising provides personalized advising, resources, and guidance to help students achieve their academic and career goals.

SCL advisors support students as they strive for academic and professional success. We help students to make informed decisions, foster leadership skills, and engage in community-building opportunities.

Current Students

During registration periods—typically in October and April—we communicate advising procedures to students by email.

UT has adopted a new student platform for scheduling advising appointments and other UT office appointments. To schedule an appointment, please use this link: EAB Navigate.

SCL Admitted Student FAQs

Will SCL students be able to enroll in courses they need in the correct sequence to graduate in four years?

Yes, School of Civic Leadership majors are designed to help students complete their degree in four years. The courses are structured to ensure students have access to the necessary classes each semester to stay on track to graduate on time.

Are SCL students guaranteed access to required courses, or do they have to compete with the general student body?

Civic Honors students are guaranteed access to all CIV courses, with reserved seats for them. If students meet the prerequisites for these courses (note that some upper-division CIV courses may have prerequisites), they can enroll without competing with the general student body.

Can students in the program easily pursue a minor or certificate, such as a business minor?

Yes, students in the Civic Honors program can pursue a minor in the McCombs School of Business or any other UT minor or certificate. However, it will depend on their academic timeline and course load. Students are encouraged to meet with their academic advisors to discuss the best options for their individual plans.

I have questions about financial aid?

UT’s Texas One Stop is a comprehensive resource that answers students’ questions about FAFSA, scholarships and awards, student employment, and much more.

I have a registration advising hold. What do I need to do?

A Registration Advising Hold is placed on students’ records to prevent them from registering for upcoming semester courses until they receive advising. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Civic Honors Students: You will receive group and one-on-one advising sessions from the Civic Honors Advisor to review your upcoming courses. You will be contacted with available times to meet for registration advising.
  • Incoming Freshmen: You will meet with your Civic Honors Advisor during Orientation for registration advising, and your hold will be cleared at that time.
  • Internal and External Transfer Students: Once admitted, you will be contacted to set up a registration advising appointment, where your hold will be cleared during the advising session.
