First-Year Applications

If you are a high school senior or a student who has completed high school and has not yet enrolled at another college or university after graduation, you are eligible to apply for admission to UT Austin and the School of Civic Leadership’s BA in Civics Honors.

  • Incoming freshmen students apply to the University of Texas Austin through UT Austin Admissions via Common App  or Apply Texas.
  • Make sure to satisfy all requirement listed on the UT Austin Application Checklist.
  • Students applying to the School of Civic Leadership’s BA in Civics Honors must answer two short essay questions.

Internal Transfer Applications

The School of Civic Leadership accepts internal applications. Prospective students currently enrolled at UT Austin who wish to transfer from one UT School or College into the School of Civic Leadership must apply for internal transfer through an online application provided by Admissions.

If you are interested in transferring into the Civics Honors program through the School of Civic Leadership (SCL), we encourage you to start by attending a Prospective Students Info Session to learn more about the program and the internal transfer process. You are also welcome to enroll in one or more of our Civics (CIV) Courses during the semester to explore our curriculum firsthand. The following courses not only count toward the Civics Honors major, but also fulfill Core Curriculum requirements:
  • CIV 304 – fulfills the Math core requirement
  • CIV 312P – fulfills the Government core requirement
  • ECO 304K – fulfills the Social & Behavioral Sciences (SBS) core requirement

Please note that the School of Civic Leadership only admits students for the Fall semester, and the application deadline is May 1 for internal transfer students. To be eligible to apply, students must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Complete at least 24 in-residence credit hours by the end of spring (excludes credit-by-exam)
  • Maintain a minimum 3.25 UT Austin GPA
  • Have no more than 45 hours of total university coursework completed (does not include dual credit or high school placement credit)
  • Apply within the first four long semesters at UT Austin

External Transfer Applications

The School of Civic Leadership accepts external transfer applications. Students currently enrolled at a college or university other than UT Austin who wish to transfer into the School of Civic Leadership must apply for transfer through an online application provided by Admissions.
