INTERNSHIP FOR CREDIT

The School of Civic Leadership internship program encourages and supports SCL students in their participation in a professional internship. Students who wish to receive internship credit must enroll in the corresponding internship-for-credit course appropriate for their major. The course provides opportunities for both personal reflection on their internship experience and feedback from their employers. The internship program improves each student’s ability to articulate their work preferences, interests, and skills, and make appropriate career-related choices.

Students can use 12twenty@Texas and other resources to search for internship opportunities. Upon approval of their internship application, students will be eligible to register for the corresponding internship course. This course will be conducted through the Canvas web platform throughout the term of the internship.

Student Eligibility

Civics Honors and Strategy and Statecraft majors are required to complete 3 hours of internship credit as part of their degree plans. Great Books majors have the option of completing an internship for elective credit. SCL offers opportunities for 1-, 2-, and 3-hour internship courses so that students can pursue a variety of options.

Currently enrolled, degree-seeking Civics Honors or Strategy and Statecraft majors in the School of Civic Leadership are eligible to enroll in the following internship-for-credit courses:

CIV 177I       Internship in Civic Leadership*

CIV 278I       Internship in Civic Leadership*

CIV 379        Internship in Civic Leadership*

STR 278I      Internship in Strategy and Statecraft

*At this time, Civics Honors majors with approved internships are eligible to enroll in CIV 379 for the 2026 Summer Term. One- and two-hour credit hour variants will open in Fall 2026.
