STRATEGY AND STATECRAFT

MAJOR

B.A. with a Major in Strategy and Statecraft

The Bachelor of Arts with a major in Strategy and Statecraft cultivates judgement and discernment in national and foreign affairs through a rigorous engagement with the classic texts of politics, war, and diplomacy, historical and contemporary analysis, and the practice of statecraft and strategy.
Students read works in philosophy, political theory, and literature, dive deep into American military and diplomatic history, and interact with professionals and experts in the fields of intelligence, defense, strategy, and foreign affairs. Students in the major grapple with the enduring human questions of power, justice, prudence, and ambition as they study how leaders align means and ends, balance domestic and foreign concerns, and make decisions under conditions of uncertainty and risk.
This unique humanities training in history and great texts along with contemporary strategic analysis prepares students for careers in diplomacy, intelligence, defense, and the private sector. The major also serves as an ideal complement to ROTC participation.
The B.A. in Strategy and Statecraft is offered in partnership with the Clements Center for National Security.
