Elly Long
Assistant Professor
Elly Long is assistant professor of political theory at the School of Civic Leadership, where she will begin teaching in fall 2026. Her research interests include the history of political thought, politics and religion, and American political thought. Her work has appeared in History of Political Thought, American Political Thought, Journal of Religious Ethics, Political Science Reviewer, and Augustinian Studies.
Her dissertation, “Augustine and the Politics of Contingency,” examines how Augustine’s theological vision can deepen our understanding of the unchosen aspects of political life, especially in relation to contemporary debates about political realism, cosmopolitanism, meritocracy, and pluralism.
