Provost Sharon Wood appoints Justin Dyer to be dean ad interim of the School of Civic Leadership while the University conducts a national search for the inaugural dean.
New Civics Honors Program in Development
Under its established faculty governance policy, the School of Civic Leadership launches faculty recruitment efforts and begins developing a proposal for a new BA in Civics Honors.
Inaugural Dean of SCL Appointed
After conducting a national search, UT Austin announces the appointment of Justin Dyer as the inaugural dean of the School of Civic Leadership.
School of Civic Leadership Launches New Programs
In collaboration with the College of Liberal Arts, the School of Civic Leadership launches a Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) minor. The School of Civic Leadership also begins offering general education courses and electives for UT Austin students during the 2024-25 academic year.
Beginning on August 1, 2024, prospective students are able to apply for admission to the School of Civic Leadership as undeclared majors matriculating in fall 2025.
The School of Civic Leadership Submits Two Additonal BA Proposals
The School of Civic Leadership submits proposals to offer a BA with a major in Great Books and a BA with a major in Strategy & Statecraft beginning in 2027.
UT System Board of Regents Invests $100 Million for SCL Permanent Home
UT System Board of Regents holds a press conference with Governor Greg Abbott, Lt. Governor Dan Patrick, UT System Chairman Kevin Eltife, UT Interim President Jim Davis, and SCL Dean Justin Dyer to announce plans to renovate the Biological Laboratories Building to house the School of Civic Leadership.
Civics Honors Program Launch
The School of Civic Leadership launches a B.A. with a major in Civics Honors for students in its founding cohort and launches a minor in Civics for UT Austin students pursuing majors outside of the School of Civic Leadership.
