Andrew Johnston
Associate Professor
Andrew Johnston is associate professor of economics at the School of Civic Leadership and a Faculty Research Fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research. He will be a senior economist on the Council of Economic Advisors in the Executive Office of the President during the 2025-26 academic year. Previously, he was associate professor of economics at UC Merced. Johnston’s research focuses on how policy shapes employment and wages, how public schools can attract and retain excellent teachers, and how family life affects child development and opportunity. He received a B.S. in economics and mathematics from Brigham Young University and a Ph.D. in applied economics from the University of Pennsylvania.
