Andrew Johnston

Associate Professor

Andrew Johnston is associate professor of economics at the School of Civic Leadership and a faculty research fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research. During the 2025–26 academic year, he will serve as senior economist on the Council of Economic Advisers in the Executive Office of the President. His research focuses on how policy shapes employment and wages, how public schools can attract and retain excellent teachers, and how family life affects child development and opportunity. 

Before joining the School of Civic Leadership, Johnston was associate professor of economics at the University of California, Merced.
