David Leal

David L. Leal is professor of government and professor, by courtesy, of Mexican American studies and religious studies in the College of Liberal Arts. Since 2018, he has also been senior fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. A scholar of Latino politics, his work explores the political and policy implications of demographic change.
Leal has published more than fifty journal articles and has edited or coedited a dozen scholarly books and journal symposia. He has been an American Political Science Association congressional fellow, a Fulbright Distinguished Lecturer in Japan, and an associate member of Nuffield College, University of Oxford. In 2021, he received the Distinguished Career Award from the Latina/o Caucus of the Midwest Political Science Association.
