Jonathan H. Green
Assistant Professor
Jonathan H. Green is assistant professor in the School of Civic Leadership at the University of Texas at Austin. His research focuses on Jewish thought and philosophy, with particular emphasis on the Enlightenment and the Hebrew Bible.
His current work examines Moses Mendelssohn’s approach to the Enlightenment and its promises of progress, prosperity, and human happiness. Bringing Mendelssohn into dialogue with Moses Maimonides and Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Green explores the problem of luxury as both a modern and a perennial challenge to human flourishing. He has published on Spinoza in the Review of Metaphysics, with additional work on Maimonides and Mendelssohn forthcoming. He has presented at the World Congress of Philosophy, the Association for Jewish Studies, and the Chase Center for Civics, Culture, and Society at Ohio State University, and he is the recipient of NYU’s Outstanding Teaching Award.
