Our Future Home
The Biological Laboratories Building
Beginning in late 2028, the School of Civic Leadership will move into the historic Biological Laboratories Building, a campus landmark being transformed with a $100 million renovation.
Building Tomorrow
Future Home of Civic Education
The historic Biological Laboratories Building was designed by famed campus architect Herbert Miller Greene, and features Spanish-Mediterranean architectural elements that are a signature motif of the Forty Acres.
Exterior restoration and site improvements will preserve and display the building's historic character. Interior spaces, consisting of five floors, will balance the traditional with the modern.
The Vision
Inside the building will live the Atrium, a signature space designed to be the beating heart of SCL's intellectual and communal life.
Spanning two levels, this library-like space will be a forum for study and
collaboration, while at the same time evoking the gravitas and purpose of serious
scholarly pursuit. Its design will draw directly from the building's original
architectural plans, with historic light fixtures and ornate glass-inset wooden
doors recreated from drawings nearly a century old.
