The Intellectual Foundations sequence introduces students to the key questions of self-government. Tools courses give students practices in the skills of leadership as they learn to read, write, think, speak, deliberate, and persuade.
Students gain broad understanding through three areas of study:
Constitutionalism
Courses in Constitutionalism offer sustained engagement with the central ideas and tensions of American constitutional self-government.
Western Civilization
The major situates the American experiment in its intellectual context with courses that explore Western Civilization through philosophical, theological, and political sources from antiquity to today.
Civic Leadership
Courses in Civic Leadership integrate classical rhetoric, ethics, statesmanship, and public affairs with serious training in economics, data analysis, and markets in order to equip students with tools for republican self-government.
